Más de 20 años realizando investigación sobre las aplicaciones biomédicas de la Resonancia Magnética Nuclear (RMN). Su investigación se centra en el estudio de perfiles metabólicos para apoyar y ayudar al diagnóstico, la caracterización y la selección de terapias en distintas enfermedades.

Estancias en el Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine de la Rutgers University (3 años), State University of New York at Buffalo (2 meses) y el Albert Einstein College of Medicine (3 meses). Scientific Manager del consorcio sobre clasificación molecular automática de tumores cerebrales (7.5 millones de euros, 21 instituciones europeas). Investigador Ramón y Cajal e investigador principal del grupo de metabolómica del INCLIVA desde 2006. Profesor Titular de Biología Celular en el Departamento de Patologia de la Universidad de Valencia desde 2018. Certificación de trayectoria investigadora destacada de la ANEP (2011). Ha impartido docencia en distintas universidades tanto nacionales como internacionales entre las que destacan la Rutgers University, la Universidad de Oulu, la Universidad Catolica de Lovaina y la Universidad Noruega de Ciencia y Tecnología. Ha publicado más 100 artículos en revistas científicas incluyendo Gut, Hepatology, Cancer Research, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Antioxidant and Redox Signalling, Journal of Biological Chemistry y Journal of Molecular Biology. Ha líderado de modo continuado proyectos nacionales y regionales desde 2006. Según ResearchGate, su contribución científica superior al 95% de los investigadores de la comunidad científica mundial.
