Graduated in Medicine from the University of Valencia in 1982, Dr. Carlos Monteagudo completed his training in Anatomic Pathology (MIR) at the University Clinical Hospital of Valencia (1984-1988). He obtained a Fogarty Fellowship from the USA National Institutes of Health (NIH) for research in immunochemistry and molecular biology with Drs. Lance Liotta and Mark Sobel at the Pathology Laboratory of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), in Bethesda, Maryland (1988-1990) and a PhD degree in 1990 from the University of Valencia. He is currently Full Professor of Pathology at the University of Valencia and Chief of Dermatopathology at the University Clinical Hospital of Valencia. Member of the Editorial Committee of Scientific Reports, Revista Española de Patología, and Actas Dermosifiliográficas. He has focused during the last 30 years in two lines of research: the main one refers to the pathogenic mechanisms, diagnostic and prognostic markers of cutaneous neoplasms, with particular emphasis on melanoma. With regard to this line, he is PI of 12 research grants funded by European, national and regional public institutions. A second line, in collaboration with the University of Texas at San Antonio, TX, USA, has been dedicated to the molecular mechanisms of dissemination and virulence of systemic candidiasis. He is reviewer of research projects for the Agencia Nacional de Evaluación y Prospectiva (ANEP) and Head of the Department of Pathology of the University of Valencia since February ,2018. He is the author of 232 articles in peer reviewed journals, most of them on skin pathology which have received 5.127 citations (WoS). H-index: 33.
