Dr. Antonio Silvestre is Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Valencia (PDI) and Head of the Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology Service at the Clinic Hospital of Valencia. His training as a resident internal doctor was carried out at the Clinic Hospital of Valencia. After completing his period as a resident, he obtained a PhD from the University of Valencia with work on the variability in the incorporation of bone grafts in relation to their size, morphology and adaptation, work that was awarded by the Royal Academy of Medicine of Valencia, reason for which he was appointed a member of said Academy in 1995.

He is also director of the pathology area of the Locomotor Apparatus at the Health Research Institute – INCLIVA. His main areas of interest and research are osteoarticular vascular and inflammatory disease (osteonecrosis, Perthes, degenerative processes), the use of new technologies in orthopedic surgery (new implant fixation systems, use of robotics), the promotion of plans for Physiotherapy and rehabilitation after reconstructive surgery and “rare diseases in orthopedics”. He has different publications in the indicated lines of research, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of these collaborations. He has participated in the development of two international patents in collaboration with members of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, with whom he has created a “start-up” awarded as the most relevant in the Valencian Community in aspects of biomedicine. He has collaborated in the preparation of national protocols and guides on osteoarticular diseases. He is the author of more than 100 papers and reviews of papers published in different national and international journals, as well as book chapters for teaching and scientific dissemination. He is a reviewer for journals such as the archives of orthopedics trauma surgery (AOTS) and the journal of orthopedics research (JOS). He is vice-president and next president (May 2023) elected of the Valencian Society of Traumatology and Orthopedic Surgery (SOTOCAV).
