Dr. Andrea Cabrera Pastor

Emerging Investigator
Research Group on Neurological Impairment

Presentation

Bachelor’s degree in Biology and holding a master’s degree in Clinical Analysis, she completed her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Universitat de València in 2014. Subsequently, she conducted her postdoctoral training at the Príncipe Felipe Research Center until 2018, when she secured a Sara Borrell contract affiliated with INCLIVA. In 2021, she began a Miguel Servet position at the University Clinical Hospital of Valencia, funded by the Carlos III Health Institute. Her research focuses on the study of the role of extracellular vesicles in neurological impairment and other comorbidities associated with obesity.

She has undertaken postdoctoral stays at the Università di Pavía and the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Milan, Italy. Actively involved in numerous European and national projects, she has built an outstanding track record with over 40 published scientific articles. Additionally, she serves as an evaluator and reviewer for projects and articles in international journals. Recently, she obtained the I3 certification from the Incentive Program for the Incorporation and Intensification of Research Activity of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

As the supervisor of four doctoral theses, as well as five undergraduate and five master’s thesis projects, she has demonstrated her commitment to the academic and scientific training of new researchers. As the principal investigator, she has secured five grants for research projects. These projects define a research line dedicated to the study of extracellular vesicles as potential biomarkers for pathological conditions (such as neurological impairment, liver damage…), predictors of treatment response, and mediators of intercellular and interorgan communication. This approach encompasses the exploration of various aspects, including diagnostic and therapeutic implications, as well as the underlying mechanisms involved.
