El Profesor Tabarés es Catedrático de Psiquiatría de la Universitat de València, Investigador Principal en el Centro de Investigaciones Biomédicas en Red de Salud Mental (CIBERSAM) del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación, y de uno de los grupos de Excelencia del programa PROMETEO, Director del Grupo de Investigación en Trastornos Mentales Graves de la Universitat de València y Coordinador del microcluster de “Autonomía Personal, Dependencia y Trastornos Mentales Graves, MCI” dentro del Campus de Excelencia VLC/CAMPUS del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación constituido en Unidad de investigación, miembro del Comité Científico de Expertos del Ministerio de Sanidad y Política Social-IMSERSO para la aplicación del Centro de Referencia de Atención socio-sanitaria para Personas con Trastorno Mental Grave en Valencia. Miembro del comité editorial y de expertos de varias revistas de prestigio, ha obtenido múltiples premios y reconocimientos, destacando entre ellos:
