Since 2016, INCLIVA has demonstrated a strong commitment to health data science, participating in major European projects such as EHDEN (European Health Data Evidence Network) and BigMedilytics (Big Data for Medical Analytics). These projects have enabled the institution to gain solid experience in the secondary use of data, interoperability, and the application of international standards.
In 2023, through the Integra Cloud project, INCLIVA took a decisive step forward with the creation of the Clinical Department-Valencia Malvarrosa data lake, where data has been curated and standardized, establishing a technological and methodological foundation that has laid the groundwork for initiatives of greater scope.
The recent reorganization of the health departments has led to the creation of the Valencia Norte Interdepartmental Health Area (ASI), which integrates the Clínico-Malvarrosa, Gandía, and Sagunto departments. Within this new framework, INCLIVA has launched the Integra Data Space (Integra DPs) project, which aims to build a health data space within the Valencia North ASI, aligned with regional and European strategies. The project is funded by the Secretariat of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (SEDIA) through the Sectoral Data Spaces Program, as part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan – Next Generation EU.
Integra Data Space is INCLIVA’s response to the challenge of transforming healthcare data into a driver of knowledge and progress. It is designed as a federated and secure ecosystem, aligned with European guidelines for health data spaces, whose purpose is to enable the secondary use of clinical and social data with the highest standards of quality, security and added value.
From a technical perspective, Integra Data Space employs an architecture based on recommendations from the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) and Gaia-X, and adopts international standards such as OMOP, FHIR and HealthDCAT-AP to ensure interoperability and alignment with the European Health Data Space (EHDS).
In its initial phase, it incorporates secure clinical data from electronic health records, primary care, pharmacies, hospital admissions, A&E and socio-health variables, beginning with a pilot project focused on improving the efficiency of primary care within the Valencia-North Health District (ASI Valencia-Norte).
Through this, Integra Data Space aims to strengthen INCLIVA’s position in the field of health data spaces in line with the Valencian Community’s health strategy, by driving the ecosystem forward, fostering public-private collaboration and improving the quality of healthcare, with a view to becoming a benchmark at both national and European level.
