Introduction

Many of the innovations developed within the hospital are translated into clinical practice or used in research and made available to the scientific community.

RESEARCH APPLICATIONS

  • Endometrium on-a-Chip
An endometrium-on-a-chip model based on a microfluidic system that simulates a real-world endometrial environment for research purposes. The model replicates the secretory phase of the endometrium, enabling studies of embryo implantation and bacterial colonisation.

INNOVATIONS IMPLEMENTED IN CLINICAL PRACTICE

  • Three-Dimensional Modelling (3D-MSP) for Pancreatic Surgery v1.0
3D technology enables the creation of accurate three-dimensional models of tumours and their relationship with surrounding blood vessels and organs, supporting surgical decision-making and improving preoperative planning.
  • Decision Algorithm for Identifying Patients at Risk of Kidney Disease
A methodology based on a real-time decision algorithm that uses a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) connected to multiple clinical databases, including electronic health records (EHRs), laboratory information systems (LIS), and electronic laboratory order systems. The system enables opportunistic screening for chronic kidney disease and provides ongoing monitoring of patients who have already been diagnosed.
  • Digital Microbiological Information Bulletin (eBIMIC)
A digital tool providing real-time access to antimicrobial resistance data for the main microorganisms responsible for infections. Users can consult relevant parameters including source, sex, age, sample type and resistance mechanism. This enables customised queries and supports the selection of the most appropriate empirical treatment.
  • EndosCitas and EndosNet
Interconnected software solutions for gastrointestinal endoscopy. EndosCitas10 is used to manage appointments and scheduling, while EndosNet10 supports the preparation of endoscopic procedure reports. The systems automatically generate comprehensive activity and productivity statistics, providing detailed insight into the operation of the Endoscopy Unit and supporting efficient service management.
