Section chief and Hematology coordinator in the Hematology and Medical Oncology Department and Director of the Hematopoietic Cell Transplant program at the Hospital Clínico Universitario in Valencia and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Valencia.
He obtained his degree of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valencia in 1981 and subsequently took his residency in Hematology and Hemotherapy in the Hospital Universitario La Princesa in Madrid. After two research stays at Hammersmith Hospital in London and the UCLA Medical Centre, Los Angeles-CA, respectively, he joined the Hospital Clínico de Valencia in 1990 as a Senior Registrar in Hematology. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Valencia in 1996 for his research into immune system recovery after hematopoietic transplants.
He was the Secretary of the Spanish Hematopoietic and Cell Therapy Transplant Group (GETH; Grupo Español de Trasplante Hematopoyético y Terapia Celular) from 2000 to 2004 and now coordinates GETH’s Immunotherapy/Graft-versus-host disease Committee.
He is the author of more than 100 original research articles in specialist journals, and has a particular interest in research into the biology and treatment of graft-versus-host disease and infectious complications in immunosuppression in patients.
